This post is in response to the prompt Can’t Watch This.
As I put in my gravitar profile, I’m an animal lover at heart. I have 4 cats and 1 dog at home right now and I would have more if my family was in a place that allowed them.
I’ve had cats my entire life and since I was 12 or 13 have had a couple dogs.
There are commercials on Television that will never cease to bother me whenever I see it. There’s a commercial from the ASPCA and other groups that assist animals in need.
The commercial has the song from the title playing in the background while the person in the video discusses the fact of abused animals needing assistance.
I’m all for assisting these animals, just like any other reasonable person would be for charity of any sort, but I don’t have money to assist them.
This commercial has always made me feel upset whenever I watch it because it reminds me of all the animals in need right now that I can’t help.
Now, to clear up one distinction that’s quite different. I’m not someone who believes that every person has to like animals or anything like that. Everyone has their own opinions, but they do need to respect nature and that includes other animal species than ourselves.
I want to help as many animals as I can. That’s why I’m going into the job that I plan on starting here in about 5-10 years depending on which track I decide to take in it.
If anyone’s interested in this story, I’ll be writing it soon talking about the very situation that made me realize how much animals have always meant to me. It gave me more of a reason to follow the goal I set for myself in my career and life.
