Prompt – I can’t believe what I’ve gotten myself into…..
In the fall, I started college for the first time to begin studying for a B.S. in Biology to pursue my goal of becoming a Veterinarian. I imagined this would be something I could handle well considering how I did in high school. I had no idea what was in store for me.
That was only slightly short of 5 months ago and everything has changed. I didn’t do as well my first semester as I thought I would due to the other problems going on in my life including relationship problems, family situations, and the anxiety or stress of finally having to make my own choices.
I’ve had many meltdowns that have tried to tell me that maybe this isn’t right for me after all, but with certain people’s help through it all, I’m not going to give that up. I’m incredibly thankful for all the people that have been there for me during this time and hope to repay them somehow someday.
Sometimes I do still wonder if college is right for me and then remember something I was warned about before: “Being ‘average’ is knowing that you aren’t given opportunity. You fight for it and if anyone tells you any differently they’re lying” (Someone’s graduation speech on YouTube.)
Even though I was always told I had a higher intelligence when I was younger, college hit me in the face with the fact that I do need to fight for what I want from it. That includes undergrad, grad school, and vet school for me before I even enter real life.

- What were some of the most life changing moments you’ve had? Were yours during college?
- How do you revive your motivation?
