Risks are a difficult thing for a lot of us, which makes sense because Biology doesn’t want us to take risks that would hurt our possibility of survival unless we have to for some very good reason. I’ve taken some risks, but they were small risks that didn’t mean I wouldn’t be able to eat properly the next day, but they felt huge to me at the time.
When me and my partner moved to our current city last summer, I didn’t have a job when we moved up here in July. I wouldn’t end up starting a job until the beginning of September which made me incredibly anxious for a while. I got one offer over the phone without having to interview properly in person, but I wound up rejecting it because the person I talked to mentioned people having to stay up to 12 hours starting at 9 am because of them being short-staffed and having to work Tuesday-Saturday. This position only paid 14/hour which wasn’t worth that type of commitment for me.
After turning down that offer, I got a temporary contract offer at a company in the downtown of my city not long after. I’m now very grateful that I was able to have the knowledge that I wasn’t going to work out in that role even though it was walking distance from my apartment building.
