This post is in response to The Eighth Sin.
There are a lot of things in the list of sins that include not killing other people. To me, that should include things that could indirectly injure a person, whether you mean to or not.
This is one of my pet peeves that I’ve had for a long time. I live with 3 smokers. Two of each are very good about not being near me and the other non-smoker in the house. The third doesn’t seem to understand that it bothers me a lot if it’s even near me.
I’m asthmatic and smoke is one of those things that can drive me insane. I wish it wasn’t like that, but it is. I’m affected mainly by cigarette smoke, gasoline fumes, and perfume/cologne.
To me, the sin should be listed as something along these lines:
“No one should cause injury to another for a reason that is not self-defense or defense of another that can’t defend themselves. This means either directly or indirectly if it can be avoided by you.”
I know that’s a simple sin, but it’s a personal pet peeve of mine that I wish wasn’t around anymore. People tend to smoke in their house or near children. That shouldn’t be something allowed because it can damage a child’s lungs worse than an adults. This is true for teenagers as well because some teenagers even smoke these days.
