This post is in response to Writer’s Block Party.
So, everyone that’s in high school can relate to something like this. I’m 17 years old right now and in about 2 weeks I start my senior year of high school. One thing everyone in this position can relate to is the numerous essays and papers a teenager has to write while in high school.
Personally, I’m someone who likes to write, but I hate being forced to write something that I might not even have interest in. That’s where my main writer’s block starts when doing these projects.
To start this off, I want to talk about why these projects that teachers assign us cause us to loose the ability to write well and make it difficult to write about anything.
In my experience, I can write easily if it’s a topic I’m interested in or something that I can see value in. My problem with essays is when the topic doesn’t benefit me at all by knowing anything about it.
I know some people think that doing the essay is important in itself, but I disagree. The essay should be useful in the sense that it teaches an important topic and teaches how to write better essays. It makes life easier for both groups involved: teachers and students.
This is a rant type of post, but it’s something I wanted to get out. I normally try and write about things that are more involved and deep, but I am 17 years old. That does mean that for me this is something I’m currently dealing with.
The only way I could think of to get through that was never really useful. I had to procrastinate because I couldn’t think of anything to say. I understand their has to be a deadline on when they’re due, but it’s annoying for me.
Sorry for the rant, but it was something I felt like I needed to say. It’s something that, quite honestly, annoys me a lot about high school assignments.
