Moon/Wolf Obsession Poem

So, I’ll give you some background before I start this poem.

When I was a little kid, I thought wolves howled at the moon. Most kids think that, but it caused me to find my obsession with wolves that I still have to this day. I’ve had it since I was 2 years old. It might have been sooner. I obviously don’t remember anymore.

I always used to howl at the moon from around age 2-6. It’s been a long running joke in the family for me.

Even so, I’ve found a way to think of it in a deeper light than just a child being themselves. Hopefully that can be viewed through this poem. It’s not going to be edited at all, but I hope it gets my point across.

If it does, someone help me give the poem a name. That’s the hardest part for me. I don’t know why. Either way, enjoy.

When I was a little kid,

I thought things differently.

I thought life was easy.

I thought parents were perfect.

I thought wolves howled at the moon.

I thought I would always have the same friends.

I’m still young, but not that young.

I now know everyone makes mistakes.

Wolves only want to talk to each other now.

I know that friends will leave, new ones will come.

I know those are obscure facts to think about.

Animals are my obsession.

That’s one thing that hasn’t changed.

It’s nice to have a safe topic to discuss.

I know that’s not just me that thinks this way.

Wolves have always been my favorite.

That hasn’t changed still.

It’s a nice idea to have that,

Isn’t it?

I know I’m not an adult yet,

but I’m pretty close.

That depends on who you ask.

Is 18, 21 or 40 a real adult?

I don’t know.

I turn 18 in under 3 months.

Weird isn’t it?

It’s weird to go from

a child who can’t talk at all

to someone whose almost done.

I’m almost done with regular school.

I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but it’s soon.

This is all I know about my age.

I have much more to learn still.

That’s the most important fact to remember.

That might be my own opinion, but think about it.
