If I had to decide a person to win 50k from something I won, I would definitely, while it sounds cheesy, give that money to my father. My family has never been well off and my parents have been divorced since I was 3 years old and while my mother had legal custody, it was my dad who I remember crying for when I was 5 years old and sick; my dad was the one I wrote about being my hero when I was a little kid and continue to do now that I’m older even though those letters are now in private.
He taught me how to ride a bike and how to be good to other people. My favorite quote from him was probably “I don’t care if you’re a republican or a democrat, just don’t be an asshole when you grow up.” I’ve taken that to heart; me and my dad do agree on politics, but it’s because of how he put those things towards me.
I’m the person I am because of our 2 hour conversations in the car each way on weekends when he saw me and taught me. He never said “I’ll tell you when you’re older”. He always did his best to explain anything in an age appropriate manner.
I love you dad, and I appreciate everything you’ve done for me.
